- Three Weeks

Achingly poignant and visually arresting, this imaginative reworking of Kafka’s classic play shines a powerful spotlight on the often dehumanising treatment of the elderly.

The female Gregor, taking medication to cope with her stressful job, awakes one morning to find herself transformed – not into the insect of Kafka’s original, but into an old lady, strikingly conveyed with the entrance of a puppet.

The gradual shift of focus from the actress playing Gregor, who remains present, to the puppet illuminates the way in which Gregor’s family, heard as offstage voices, begin to treat her as an inhuman burden rather than the person she was.

As beautiful as it is heartbreaking, this production will live long in the memory.

From England

This morning Gregor woke up and felt different. She has changed.

With a need to provide for her family, what can she do? She must go to work. But her body doesn’t function the way it used to, and she just can’t make it out the door.

Will she be able to depend on her family to support her the way she supported them?

Using puppetry and masks, Kafka’s master stroke vision of transformation and betrayal is re-imagined for the 21st century in startling physical form.
